Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013, Mount Fuji is Japan's most iconic landmark. At 3,776 metres it is also Japan's tallest mountain. On clear days, enjoy spectacular views of Mount Fuji from the hot-spring area of Hakone and the rural village of Oshino-mura. Hakone is a popular and historic area, famous for its geothermal activity and views of Mount Fuji. We recommend one or two nights here to explore the hot-spring baths, nature and sightseeing spots.
Oshino-mura is an interesting farming village full of character. Traditional Gassho-Zukuri thatched-roof houses have been carefully restored by residents and Oshino's UNESCO-designated ‘Eight Lakes’ are famous for their clear waters. Spend one night here in a thatched-roof house with 250 years of history, beautifully-kept rooms, gardens and Japanese baths. Enjoy a delicious dinner and breakfast, freshly prepared from local ingredients and fish from the inn's own pond. Take a stroll around the lakes in peace of the evening after day-visitors have departed. Return to Tokyo the next morning. Hakone and Oshino-mura can be enjoyed year-round. The clearest views of Mount Fuji can normally be seen outside of June's rainy season and the sultry high summer months of July, August and early September.
